'Ten Years On' is our first foray into directing films using actors. The story follows Karina, Clark and Tyler all in their twenties who reflect back on their time in care when they were younger, the key people and support that helped them along the way.

Objectives:

Create a short ten minute film for NESTA which would highlight the innovations  Derbyshire Council have developed with their young people in care in an engaging way.

Processs:

We worked closely with Derbyshire council to ensure our fictional characters accurately reflected the voices and situations of the young people they work with every day. We were given access to personal stories and cases and also visited the area several times. All of this research helped shape the tone and feel of the script. In addition we involved the local community as much as possible - for instance we filmed all of the boxing scenes at a local boxing gym in Derby with kids at the club, many of whom are in care or supervision by social services.

Outcomes:

The film has been released online and has been used by NESTA to showcase the work Derbyshire Council do with young people.

"Be Inspired Films are fantastic to work with. Not only do they know their subject incredibly well but they are able to work really closely with people to help them think out of the box and bring their ideas to fruition in a really creative and thoughtful way. "
