Be Inspired Films Internship – The Beginning

Using my well-to-do contacts, I managed to bag myself an internship with Be Inspired Films. Having met with Ravi, I realised this was an organisation with passion, vision and skill. To get to know some of the team, I attended their workshop on how to create your own videos for the web all the way back in February. It helped me realise how simple it was to make your own short films, and since then, using the skills I learned from the workshop, I have made a few of my own short films and loaded them on to YouTube. And I hadn’t even started the internship! Already I knew, this internship would be an exciting, challenging and educational venture. This past Wednesday, I assisted at the filming of the Big Venture Challenge in London. Known as BVC for short (not BBC as what it kept sounding like), it was an opportunity for social enterprises to meet and learn from each other. The day was a great experience, getting first-hand experience at one to one interviewing, seeing how the cameras were used, and even getting to have a go at some filming myself. Admittedly, the filming part that I got to do didn’t last long because I am very small and weak, and the camera was very large and heavy! I need to build some more arm muscle… But I felt like I was in the thick of things, and that I was given enough responsibility so that I felt like the team trusted me and supported me. I also met a variety of interesting people, all extremely passionate and unique, which was inspiring and a good opportunity to learn. A wonderful beginning, and I look forward to what I get to do with Be Inspired Films next!

The sunshine is out in Central London, and we have a full house here at the Art Workers Guild for the ‘How to create your own videos for web’ course.

Eleven people have joined us today to learn some basic skills in video production – to help them tell their stories.

The course is designed so you can create short focused films – and by the end of the day you can display the technical skills to achieve this.

Our crew today will not only learn how to shoot good video, but also how to edit and upload their projects to the web! Let’s get underway.

Google is the number one search engine and YouTube is now the number two.

Google owns YouTube, so no surprise that video is now an integral part of most searches.

In fact Google rates a page with video higher than a page without as it is considered to be more useful to the searcher. Im guessing this is because information on a video is easier and quicker to take in than just text or just audio.

Many of those long scrolling emails you used to get where they go on and on about the benefits of a particular product or training course are now using a landing page that just has a large video player and a BOOK NOW button. You can so much more in so much less time and in such a more appealing way by using video.
